Toal lack of requests for information and assistance fron Boncap. Zero stars for this business
Virtually every month after repeated written requests to Boncap for our monthly statement to be sent to us we have to spend hours on the 'phone to Boncap requesting a statement. It doesn't help emailing them because all you get in reply are NO REPLY mails, which help absolutely diddly squat. Since the 10th of this month, I have emailed them 4 times without any success at all. It is imperative that we receive these statements timeously as we currently have a lot of claims worth a lot of money to submit to our Gap Cover for a life-threatening situation which put my wife in ICU for 7 days over the Christmas period and another 2 days in the medical ward (18th to 26th December 2025.) As SASSA pensioners we are only able to afford medical aid because our son pays our subscriptions for us, we cannot afford to lose out on Gap Cover claims due to Boncap's laxity. Last week my wife spent R147.00 out of her monthly airtime budget of R150.00 on the phone to Boncap with absolutely zero result from Boncap. A lot of that time was going through their "choices" of which department etc. we would like to talk to. We eventually got to the stage where they asked us to put in our membership number *** only to be told that that membership number was 'inactive'. Absolute and utter bull. Last week we spent a lot of time and petrol which we could ill afford to travel to their client walk in branch only to be told that they had moved. No forwarding address etc. on the old office windows. Luckily a security guard there was able to provide us with the new address details, we went there and the assistant there was about as much use as a wet tissue. Another issue we have with Boncap is getting their list of DSP hospitals which we have requested numerous times. We need these especially for our area as they seem to change these on a regular basis. In a current emergency we would have no clue as to where to go. Boncap's problems are now being compounded by their internal squabbles between themselves, Medscheme and PHA which means even less care and attention being paid to their clients. It is a pity that your portal does not have half or even zero-star ratings as Boncap would most definitely receive a zero-star rating from me. Main member: Mr. Michalakis Papadopoulos. IT IS NOW 12.31 AND WE HAVE STILL NOT RECEIVED ANYTHING FROM USELESS BONITAS!!!!!!
We have claims that we need to submit to our Gap Cover and in order to do this we need UP TO DATE Bonitas statements. If we do not submit gap cover claims within a certain time period, we are not permitted to claim. IF ANY OF OUR CLAIMS ARE REJECTED BECAUSE OF BONITAS NOT SUBMITTING STATEMENTS TO US TIMEOUSLY, WE WILL CLAIM THE DUE SUMS FROM BONITAS DIRECTLY.
It is now the 19.-3.2026 surely statements should have been ready and sent out by 15th of the month AT THE VERY LATEST?
We are now sick to death of Bonitas and their 'don't give a damn about their client's' attitude. I expect both the February 2026 statement and the list of DSP hospital s by noon tomorrow 20.03.2026

Yet again we had to phone them this morning requesting a copy of our February 2026 statement only to be told that they "have a problem with the February statements" Do we believe this BS? I think not. If this is so why have they not sent out a general letter to their Boncap (and whichever other plans this affects) to say " we apologise for the delay but we have a problem'? No, this is too much effort for ****ing useless Boncap who couldn't give a flying ***k about their clients. They're very quick to take your money every month but useless at responding to queries and pleas for help. They do not care that we SASSA have spent hundreds of rands on phone calls to them and hours driving from one misnamed "HELP CENTRE" to another only for staff there to literally shrug their shoulders in a don't know don't care attitude.
Once again we had to explain to them that we need this statement as a matter of extreme urgency in order to put in a Gap Cover claim for an amount on admission of R8080.00 paid as a co-payment by our son for a CT scan my wife needed as an emergency to establish the cause of a bleed which resulted in her collapsing with a BP of 64/47 and haemoglobin levels of 4.3 as opposed to the 13 to 16 hgl levels considered normal in an adult. . Seven days in ICU receiving 7 units of blood and countless infusions of iron and 2 days on the medical ward. The R8080.00 payment was made by our son as our funds for 2025 had been exhausted due to an MRI I needed at the end of October 2025.
What a pity my wife couldn't be considerate enough to wait until the New Year to collapse instead of collapsing on 18.12.2025 and spending Christmas in hospital. And yes I'm being as sarcastic as hell here. The saddest part of this was that our son and daughter in law were spending Christmas with us as a surprise and my wife missed spending Christmas with her beloved children. who had come all the way from Australia to see us over the festive period. Should we not receive the relevant documents in time to submit to our Gap Cover we will claim this from Bonitas directly.
This matter has already been escalated to the Medical Council complaints department and to Wendy Knowler. Next step is the Ombudsman.
Yes I have used some very strong expletives in this email and I am NOT going to apologise for them. I am so angry about this situation that there are far stronger expletives that I could and would like to use.
I will fight this matter to the bitter end as I know that I am well within my rights to fight for what is rightfully mine.
