Short notice of Primary select migration

I am extremely disappointed in Bonitas Medical Aid and the way this matter has been handled.

I received an email on 24 December 2025 stating that the Primary Select plan will be discontinued with effect from 1 January 2026, and that we will be migrated to the BonPrime plan. This communication was sent only one week before January begins, which is completely unacceptable for something as critical as medical aid, and for us as the consumers to make an informed decision.

The BonPrime plan is not even close to the level of cover we had on Primary Select, yet it will cost almost R1,000 more per month for LESS cover. This feels unfair and unreasonable, especially given that medical aid decisions require careful planning, comparison, and budgeting.

We have been with Bonitas for many years and have always been happy with the service up until now. However, this sudden change has forced us to urgently look for an alternative medical aid. The reality is that moving medical aids now will likely result in a three-month waiting period, which is extremely stressful and unfair — particularly as we have children and rely on consistent medical cover.

There should have been fair warning well in advance, allowing members enough time to:

Properly compare plans

Or move to another medical aid without being penalised by waiting periods

Sending such a major notification at the last minute shows a lack of consideration for members who trust Bonitas with their healthcare.

I would like Bonitas to explain:

Why such short notice was given

Why members are expected to accept reduced benefits

This experience has seriously damaged my trust in Bonitas, and I hope this complaint is taken seriously.
