Shocked at service
Thursday the 3rd of March my husband had what appeared to be an epileptic seizure despite having no history of epilepsy. He was taken to Vaalpark hospital as it is the only network hospital in our area. 1. At Admissions opening his file I was told there is a R200 file fee. Which I have never encountered before at any hospital plus its a in network hospital. I said I didn't have it on me and was told ok she'll talk to the doctor. 2. My husband waited from 12:30 till about 3pm to be seen by a doctor at emergency. No physical exam was performed. 3. He was moved to a ward and put in a bed with no pillows, he had taken a serious fall during the seizure, and the bed was a spare kept in the ward, it seemed. He had to wait for a patient to be discharged to get a proper bed. We waited almost 3 hours after the patient was discharged just for them to put clean bedding on the bed and for my husband to be moved to a proper bed with bedding. 4 The food portions was very small and later the evening a platter with open sandwiches was placed on a trolley in the ward for patients to serve themselves. very unhygienic. 5. No test results where explained to my husband, the Dr discharged him via phone.
