Rejecting claims for life threatening conditions.
My 10 month old son was referred to a pediatric pulmonologist after having been hospitalized 3 times and nearly five weeks this year, every time with severe wheezing and high flow oxygen. After our last stay, our pediatrician referred us to the specialist to try and find out what is going on with the lungs, because we can't go back to hospital every two months. I was told to pay the consultation and claim it back. Now the medical aid is telling me that it's rejected because the specialist is not on my network, and then they sent me a long list of normal pediatricians and told me I should have used one of them. There's a massive difference between a pediatrician and a pulmonologist. I sent an email back stating that those are not specialists and they would also have referred me as we've been to 4 different pediatricians already. I got no reply.
We were not given an option as to which specialist to consult, as there are no other pediatric pulmonologists even remotely close to us, and this is a life or death situation. Again, his hospital stays last 2 weeks, every time on high flow oxygen and fighting for his life. Is it acceptable to pay a two week hospital stay every two months rather than helping us fix the issue and keeping my baby out of hospital??
Please explain how this would not be a PMB, as no one at Bonitas is bothering to reply, even though I've sent my query to three different email addresses and made phone calls.
