No transparency

I visited my GP, which is my nominated network GP, on 25 May 2023. I was prescribed medication which I also collected at a network pharmacy. Bonitas Boncap did not pay a cent of either my consultation or the medication that was prescribed to me even though I have the benefits available. I sent an email on Friday, 26 May, and made a phone call today, 31 May, to the Boncap queries line. The man that I spoke to informed me that my claims were not paid because my GP's contract with Boncap had already expired on 10 March. I was not informed of this by the medical aid. When I asked how I was supposed to have known this without any communication received from the medical aid, I was informed that the list of network GPs are updated on a weekly basis and that I should have checked it. I then asked where it stipulates that I should check this list weekly or before consulting with a doctor. I was then told that this is not stated anywhere and that there are no outbound emails to members informing them that the network GPs have changed. I feel that there is no transparency and that I should have been informed that my nominated doctor is no longer covered by Bonitas. I am very unhappy as I am a student and cannot afford to pay for my doctor's consultation and medication on top of my monthly premium. Do not join this medical scheme unless you want problems.
