Misinformation

I have been a member of Bonitas medical Aid for about 16 years. I recently had to go in for a very necessary full knee replacement and was informed when applying for the authorisation codes, that on the Bonsave option, the actual prosthesis (costing R27000 + R3000 for cement), would not be covered. When enquiring whether I could change my option plan prior to the operation to a plan that could cover the prosthesis, I was told I'd have to wait a further 12 months before I could have the op. As I could hardly walk, this was not an option. Now, after the op, I spoke to another employee at Bonitas client services to change my plan and during the course of the conversation, I told him how angry I was at having to fork out this extra R30 000 and was told that I could have got a letter of motivation from my surgeon to apply to change my option prior to the op and I would have been covered! Because of Bonitas slackness in giving me the correct information, I have had to foot this bill.
