Incompetence

I had a follow up appointment with a specialist, after a heart procedure. The receptionist had advised that I obtain an auth number. I phoned Bonitas and informed them that I require this as a follow up on the procedure. The consultant confirmed the original auth number (of the hospital procedure) and advised that I do not need an auth number, as the follow up was still within the 6 - 8 weeks of being discharged from hospital.

After querying as to why the claim was rejected (via e-mail), I was told that my daily limits had been exceded. When I followed this up with a phone call to get clarity, I was again informed that my daily benefits had been exceded and that there was nothing I could do. Whilst my argument was, that I was led to believe that since I was informed that I dont need an auth number, BECAUSE IT WAS STILL WITHIN THE 6-8 WEEKS....as per original auth number. The consultant (and her line manager) informed me that whilst they acknowledge that the consultant should have informed me that the limits were exceded, it is my responsibility to ask.....AS IF I WOULD KNOW THAT THIS DOES NOT FORM PART OF THE PROCEDURE.

The entire lack of them taking responsibility is appaling. Whilst they acknowledge that more info could have been shared, its now down to....oh well....nothing we can do about it.
