Heart Attack on Hospital Floor? Sorry! No Cover!

Neither I or my family will never use Bonitas again. My mother had a heart attack on the floor of Wilgeheuwel hospital over the weekend and had to be resuscitated. Bonitas will not pay a cent! Their reason? Waiting period. This is unacceptable. Yes I can understand a waiting period for planned surgeries even if they are a PMB, but you mean to tell me, if my mother is literally dying you cannot even pay for the few days it takes to stabilize her with some anticoagulant medication?! This is ridiculous.

Do you want to know where she is now? She’s been in Helen Joseph Casualty for three days without visitors allowed because there is no space for her anywhere else. She hasn’t eaten because all they can give is pap and my mother is diabetic so she can’t eat it and we aren’t allowed to take her food. The only reason we know where she is is because she has somehow managed to call us from a stranger’s phone.

Bonitas will probably tell you they’re within their rights to exclude all PMB’s (even emergencies?) But I just can’t understand how they can have so little humanity.

I will make sure every newspaper hears about this.
