Concern Regarding Designated Service Provider Access and Administrative Challenges

I am writing to formally raise my concerns regarding the challenges I am experiencing in accessing my Schedule 6 medication through the designated service provider (DSP) network.

As a member residing in kwa-Thema 85,4km from the nearest DSP, I face significant logistical and financial challenges in obtaining my prescriptions. I do not have personal transportation, and the current requirement to travel to drop off a script is both stressful and costly. Attempts to liaise with DSP pharmacies have not resulted in practical solutions or guidance, leaving me with limited options.

While I understand that DSP arrangements are intended to control costs and ensure compliance, the current implementation severely impacts members who have mobility constraints or live in areas with limited DSP coverage. The system, in its present form, creates unnecessary administrative burdens and delays in accessing essential medication, which can affect my health and well-being.

I urge the medical aid to consider the following:

Alternative arrangements such as approved local pharmacies or mail-order options for members facing mobility challenges. For example my daughter is on schedule which cannot be emailed! I have to pay a dr to issue a script and carry costs for then ensuring the script is dropped off at DSP

Clear guidance and support from DSP pharmacies in processing prescriptions and facilitating access efficiently.

A review of administrative procedures to ensure members are not disproportionately disadvantaged by distance or lack of transport.

I hope that my concerns will be taken seriously, and that practical solutions can be provided to address the challenges I, and potentially other members, face under the current DSP system.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to a timely response outlining possible resolutions.
