Bonitas: The worst decision I have ever made

This by far has been the worst service failure I have ever experienced in my life

My husband was the principal member at another medical aid since 2018 through his employer and I had my own medical aid since 2018 through my employer as well. When we got married November 2023 I then went onto his medical aid (with 0 waiting periods).

In September this year my husband resigned from his employer and therefore the medical aid cancelled automatically and we then went via Optivest to sign up with a Bonitas. This was the worst mistake we have ever made.

1) all documents were signed and sent through 4 September 2024. We only received feedback on 12 October when the inception date was supposed to have been 01 October.

2) on 12 October we received notice that my husband will have a waiting period of three months. The broker as well as myself queried this as there was no break in service. We both were told that he needs to send through all sorts of documents including a letter from his employer, which we did.

3) we only then received feedback on 7 November and was told that we need to pay two months (R6844) worth of premiums to be covered and they will get back in regards to his waiting periods. We paid immediately and sent through proof of payments to Bonitas and the broker. The next day we received feedback that irrespective my husband has to serve the waiting period of three months (it took over a months to draw that conclusion alone)

4) by this time we so gatvol as we don’t have medical aid and we just need to be covered. Everything was signed and sent through. THEREAFTER WE RECEIVE A NEW LETTER WITH WAITING PERIODS FOR ME FOR PRE EXISTING CONDITIONS.

By this time I’m ready to cancel so I call in. I was advise me that I have waiting periods as I joined a medical aid this year. I explained that I was under a different medical aid but I was told that as I never submitted the membership certificate for that one, that’s why I had waiting periods imposed. I explained that I was never asked for that one. Also, I had initially disclosed I have pcos and no waiting period was imposed the first time so where did they suck this information from. I also now have a waiting period for something I was never diagnosed with. its been months and by this point I honestly feel sick when I think about the runaround we getting just to join a medical aid. What happens when it comes to the claims process?!???

Reviewer Update
It’s been over a week now and no one has contacted me in regards to this. I have sent a lengthy email to membermain@Bonitas to cancel and to refund me due to non starter and terrible service. I haven’t received a call or a reply via email. I’m truly disappointed
