BONITAS - Shocking, Don't Care, Pathetic Service!!!
My Wife went in for a Hernia operation on Monday. When we arrived at the hospital we were informed that the medical Aid was declining her procedure. The surgeon wanted to do a Laproscopic repair but the medical aid said "No, they will only approve open surgery". The surgeon called the medical aid and explained that he is the Vice President of the Surgeons Hernia Association South Africa and that this operation by gold standard treatment, set out by surgeons, should be done by a Laproscopic procedure. He further explained his recommended surgery to Bonitas would significantly reduce the risks associated with this type of necessary surgery and that anaesthesia required would be less also reducing risk and last but most importantly, the pain the patient would endure would be considerably less and so would the recovery period. Bonitas reply was NO, Do it the old and cheaper way. Bonitas said that the surgeons recommendation is not their concern and they will only approve open surgery no matter what the concerns are in relation to risk , pain and suffering .
My wife was in a lot of pain because of the hernia and just wanted to get the problem fixed so she agreed to do it Bonitas way against mine and the surgeons advice but on Bonnitas insistence. The result = Two and a half hours in surgery, when she came out she was in excruciating pain for 12 hours and kept overnight the hospital tried to contain pain but wife suffered immensely. I have never seen her cry out loud in tears in the 20 years we’ve been married. The next morning she was released from hospital with the insistence from Bonitas. I took her home. Later the same day I noticed a considerable amount of blood pouring out through the surgery dressing. I picked her up and took her back to the hospital. The doctor came immediately redressed her surgery and stopped bleeding and instructed the hospital to re admit her for the night for observation of the bleeding and pain management. But guess what ?!! Bonitas declined the doctors instruction and would not approve her re admittance to hospital so I had to take her home and pray. My Bonitas medical aid bill is R12000 per month. I’ve never skipped a payment. My families health is my priority. I’m on Boncomplete scheme, one of the so called best.
My advice to ALL ,after this experience “ IF YOUR MEDICAL AID IS BONNITAS.... , RUN , RUN , RUN
Please change before you have an emergency and have to experience the trauma my wife and family has experienced.
