Bonitas rejecting emergency claim after hours & shifting admin burden – Refs: 190925Q4KPPL / 091025Q5R948 / EDI***

Complaint: On 6 Sept 2025 (Saturday after 16:00) I received urgent care in Kathu. Pre-authorisation was not possible at the time. My radiology claim (Selemela Radiology Inc, R960) was rejected for “no pre-authorisation” and because the referring provider is ‘not in network’—despite this being the only radiology option in town during an emergency. A related doctor claim (Dr Kongolo Inc, R580.60) was only part-paid, leaving me with a shortfall of R175.10.

I’m now told I should have secured a casualty authorisation at the time/within 48h, and I keep getting conflicting explanations from different agents (emergency not captured; I should have called; the hospital should have notified Bonitas). Meanwhile, I’m a long-standing member with minimal claims and I’m being asked to chase ICD-10/tariff/admin codes after the fact—the exact opposite of what a member needs in an emergency.

What I want:

Reconsider and pay the emergency claims (Radiology R960 and the R175.10 shortfall) given the after-hours emergency context and lack of alternatives in Kathu.

Bonitas to obtain any clinical info directly from providers for emergencies, rather than shifting the burden to members.

Written timelines, a single accountable contact, and confirmation that retroactive authorisation has been actioned as promised.
