Bonitas refusing to pay Outstanding Doctor's charges after i was hospitalized
I’m extremely disappointed at Bonitas, I was admitted to Med-clinic hospital in Worcester from the 20th -23th April 2020 due to spinal cord pains (bulge disc) and right leg pains, I could hardly move my right leg. I was taken in for X-ray scan and further assessment for few days which includes MRI scan. After the assessment I was given two options by the doctor first being operation on my back and second being chiropractor/physio the******. I chose the second option of which I’m still attending physiothe******s via Back and neck rehabilitation programme (medscheme).
According to Bonitas, the doctor that was treating me in hospital from 20th -23th April 2020 overcharged, and Bonitas only paid the agreed rate. And I’m liable for the outstanding balance.
The outstanding amount of R629.76 The outstanding amount with interest rates included of November month R824.38
The doctor has then referred the matter to the lawyers, and the due date set by lawyers for payment was last week (13th November 2020). I’ve been in contact with Bonita’s agencies numerous times through emails and over the phone, the X-Ray and MRI scan reports were rejected, and after numerous correspondence with Bonita’s agencies I have then received final decision today (19th November 2020) that I’m liable for the outstanding amount.
I’m extremely disappointed about the decision taken by Bonitas, as this was not under my control. The decision taken by Bonitas is really unfair and unjustifiable, I was hospitalized after all and had no means to choose the doctors that will be charging according to Bonitas rates.
This has really affected me psychologically, no body chooses to be hospitalized or to be sick thus I’ve medical aid to cover for my medical expenses. It was even my first time being admitted in hospital, and now I’m wondering what will happen next should I be hospitalized and how much outstanding amount will I be required to pay.
At this point I’m only requesting Bonitas to pay the outstanding amount, and reverse your decision. I would appreciate your quick response.

Hi Bonitas,
Please note that the concern hasn't been resolved, and this is so disappointing and tedious.
How do I become liable for Doctor's overcharges if I did not have a practical choice of choosing, I was admitted in Hospital.
Please see your (Bonitas) first response below:
"Please note that Dr. on Bonitas network of specialist orthopaedic surgeons and did not charge the negotiated rates. We have sent the claim for review if it can be paid in full. You will be notified once feedback is received. The turnaround time is 10 working days."
The Doctor is within your network as per your response and overcharged. This should be an agreement between Bonitas and the Doctor not the client.
I never went in the hospital for planned consultation, I was admitted under emergency unplanned incident. how do I then become liable for what's happening in the hospital.
Please Bonitas clarify the rejection of this claim, as you strive to give the best customer service to your clients.
How do I become liable if I did not have practical means of choosing the doctor?
What's the agreement between yourself the Doctor in question?
