BONITAS -****PIEST MEDICAL FUND

This is the one of the worst medical aids you can ever join. I left my previous medical aid because it became quite pricey. Having heard from several people that Bonitas was a reasonable medical aid I decided to give it a try. Worst mistake I ever made. Having transferred from one medical aid to another I should not have had a waiting period but they implemented one. I accepted that as the medical aid prerogative since I do suffer with chronic illnesses. I was assured that I would be covered for my chronic medication with no issues so I submitted my script to the chronic department. Received the confirmation that they would only cover certain of my chronic meds and not all and was advised that one of my meds was not necessary. I accepted the assessment and left out the meds that they would not cover. I become seriously ill in the 2nd month of the probationary period and had to have tests done in relation to my chronic illness. I had to blood tests done which amazingly was one of the things they covered. The doctor motivated for me to be put back on the meds they would not cover. They requested a kidney test which required more bloods. Amazingly they refused to pay for this test which was conducted at their request. I had to pay this out of my pocket. The following week I go to the pharmacy to collect testing strips and lancets. They don't cover this even though I am a chronic diabetic. When I contacted them I was told this is only covered if I.am insulin dependent. So I must practically halfway dead before they would cover my monitoring treatment. Again pay out of my pocket. Was beginning to wonder what was the point of paying for this medical aid. Over the easter weekend I developed abdominal pain. Most of the GPs were away due to the Easter weekend so I went to casualty. They took urine samples,bloods and needed to do a CT scan. The hospital contacted the medical.aid in relation. To the CT scan and were provided a reference. Note I still had to pay a co-payment of R2800. During the course of last week I was informed by the hospital that the medical covered practically nothing which means I must now cover the costs of the medical procedures but I supposedly have a medical aid. According to the medical aid my funds are exhausted. I have been paying this medical aid since December 2025 and to date the payments have added up to R18000 and yet I have been advised that my funds are depleted??? I have only been claiming from this medical aid since March because of the waiting period. I have definitely not claimed up to R18000 worth of medical expenses considering that they pay for just about nothing. I AM ADVISING ANYONE DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES JOIN BONITAS MEDICAL AID. THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST MEDICAL FUND YOU COULD EVER JOIN. STAY AWAY. SAY YOUR MONEY!!
