Bonitas not paying in hospital dietetic account
I hereby submit a formal complaint against Bonitas Medical Fund regarding their refusal to reimburse professional dietetic services rendered to a patient diagnosed with Gastric Outlet Obstruction. The patient was unable to tolerate oral or enteral nutrition, and parenteral (intravenous) nutrition was clinically indicated. This treatment was prescribed and subsequently authorised and paid by the medical scheme. spite submitting multiple clinically appropriate ICD-10 codes, the scheme rejected the dietetic nsultation and management fees, stating that none of the ICD-10 codes were acceptable. This indicates that the refusal is not based on clinical diagnosis or medical necessity, but rather on benefit interpretation, while the authorised treatment itself has been funded. Dietetic assessment, prescription, and ongoing monitoring form an essential and inseparable part of parenteral nutrition therapy. Parenteral nutrition cannot be initiated or safely managed without the involvement of a registered dietician as part of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. Funding the nutrient solution while refusing remuneration for the required professional service represents fragmented funding of a single the****utic intervention and is not aligned with evidence-based clinical practice.
