BONITAS MEDICAL FUND: WHAT A *******.

I was forced at the end of last year to change me medical plan from a hospital plan to a standard plan with standard benefits. I had no option. The result is my monthly premium almost doubled and the benefits are **********. I have not even been on the new plan for 8 months and my benefits are depleted. The net result is I am paying alimony more than double my previous premium and now I still have to pay out of my own pocket for benefits. This conduct prejudice me in the extreme. I have not heard a word from Bonita’s and have not received a new card etc. Why would any consumer change to a new plan that results in huge extra premiums with lesser benefits. This conduct is unacceptable but I had no choice I was just advise that my hospital plan no longer was an option. I have no doubt that many other members suffered the same fate and we are completely at the mercy of the medical fund.

First I did receive an email from Bonitas but it did not resolve my complaint at all. The issue remains that I was forced to migrate to another medical aid plan which included day to day expenses. There was no longer a hospital plan option available which new plan is far more costly and I still have to contribute to day to day expenses. That is my complaint. Second I have requested clarity and raised concerns in the past with no response. This sudden response pursuant to my public complaint confirms the poor service delivery. Third Bonitas accepted that no new medical aid cards were furnished to me. Fourth to this day I have never been contacted by a representative of Bonitas to explain the benefits and why I wax forced to relinquish a simple hospital plan.

In fact the absurdity is that Bonitas forced me to migrate to another plan and then charges me R 1695,74 per month as a penalty for late joinder. I didn’t ask to join the new plan it was forced upon me and I pay a hefty penalty every month.
