Bonitas Medical Aid not worth it.

Not worth the money. You pay a large sum each month and everything on the surface level sounds good, that they will cover the things you need most, meanwhile when it comes down to claiming they have all sorts of rules about claims and use their 'codes' aka the fine print to explain why they won't pay you back in full. I used the doctor locator to find a Gynae linked to Bonitas. There are only a few in Cape Town within a good distance of my residence. I tried one: Dr Aneeqah Hendricks from Melomed Tokai and she seemed decent. I was told that I would have to pay upfront, and then claim back from Bonitas (which I thought would be simple as they put her on their list of doctors). Bonitas also states that you can receive a pap smear once in a 3 year period for women between ages 21 and 65 under the Primary plan, which fits me perfectly as I am 25 and haven't had any others in the past three years. It clearly says on the account, which I sent to Bonitas for a claim that a pap smear was done, but they refused to cover it. They also refused to pay the consultation fee (R900) in full, with some 'Claim is in excess of the negotiated rate' excuse. How can they refuse to pay for the service of a doctor that they put on their list? The whole experience is just frustrating and emailing back and forth resolves nothing. You're better off saving your money.
