Bonitas Medical Aid Losing Customer Records Frustratingly

Bonitas has, without a doubt, the worst customer service of any medical aid provider I’ve ever dealt with.

We have been trying to get my mother covered for three months now. Firstly, they backdated her registration to the beginning of February 2025 instead of the 1st of March, which is when we actually app****—in mid-February. When we attempted to correct this, well within 30 days, they falsely claimed that “30 days had passed” and refused to amend the start date. This was proven to be untrue when I provided the timestamped email clearly showing when the request was made.

But more egregious is the fact that, after we requested they debit my bank account, they failed to update the details. We’ve been trying to change the debit account for two months now. Bonitas has sent me the exact same request for the same set of documents four times: certified ID, proof of account, and the application form confirming they should debit from my account.

Despite calling over three different consultants, none have been helpful. The most recent call was just yesterday—and the outcome? I’ve now been asked to resend that exact same set of documents for a fifth time. In the meantime, Bonitas has neither debited from my account nor covered my mother, yet they continue to send her statements showing arrears.

Bonitas has poor record keeping. Their consultants are clearly outsourced, lack proper knowledge of Bonitas’ internal processes, and are not empowered to assist customers meaningfully. Every time, they say they’ll “escalate the matter”, only for me to receive an email from a “No Reply” address—blocking any opportunity to actually resolve the issue.

Bonitas doesn’t seem to grasp just how deeply frustrating this experience is. How is it this difficult to update banking details on a profile? You’ve received all my documents, so why am I being bounced from one consultant to another, with no resolution in sight? Why are you blocking engagement through no-reply emails when customers are trying to fix genuine problems?

Bonitas needs to seriously reconsider its service model. It should be offering straightforward, user-friendly processes—like Discovery does. At Discovery, their consultants are actually informed, empowered, and capable of resolving issues in a single call. Bonitas, by contrast, seems far more interested in endless email loops than in solving real problems.
