Bonitas late joiner penalty

Be careful if you consider moving to Bonitas from another medical aid. I joined Bonitas after 35 years with another fund because they had affordable products with good cover. To my shock, Bonitas wanted to add a late joiner penalty of more than 60% to my premium. Bear in mind that this penalty is paid every month. I cancelled my membership with immediate effect and went back to my old fund. The way I understand the relevant legislation a late joiner penalty in my case was unfair and unreasonable. Be that as it may, be careful before you commit yourself.
