“Bonitas: ******* in Disguise with Terrible Service”

If you’re thinking of joining Bonitas, here’s some free advice: don’t waste your time. Look for a different medical aid because this one is a complete disaster.

Earlier this year, I made the mistake of switching to Bonitas after being with my previous medical aid for over 10 years. Little did I know, that was the beginning of a nightmare of incompetence and blatant disregard for their members. 1. When I registered, it was agreed that I would pay Bonitas directly from my bank account because I don’t receive a work subsidy—I pay the full cost out of my own pocket. That was fine. 2. I admit, I missed a payment due to financial reasons. Usually, when this happens, the medical aid suspends your account. That’s fine and understandable. 3. The problems started when I checked my payslip and saw that Bonitas had instructed my employer to pay them directly—without consulting me and without my permission! They deducted over R10,000 from my salary. 4. Let me be clear: the issue wasn’t paying the money. The issue is that Bonitas acted behind my back, violating the agreement we had. I was supposed to pay them directly, not through my employer. 5. In November, I terminated my membership with Bonitas and received both a termination confirmation and a certificate. Yet, at the end of November, they still instructed my employer to deduct the premium from my salary. 6. December rolls around, and Bonitas debits my account again! Why? Only they know because I had already terminated my membership. 7. Earlier in December, I contacted them demanding a refund. I was told the money would be in my account by Tuesday, December 24. Today is December 30, and I still haven’t received my money.

It’s funny how quick they are to take your money, but when it’s time to return what they essentially stole, it’s suddenly the most difficult task in the world.

In all my years, I’ve never experienced such ********** service. Be warned: Bonitas will take your money without consent, and getting it back will be an uphill battle. Avoid them at all costs.
