BONCAP 2026 INCOME VERIFICATION IS A TRAP
Bonitas BonCap has suddenly changed the rules for 2026 income verification and is deliberately putting many unemployed and low-income members in an impossible position. For years BonCap accepted sworn affidavits as proof of no income/unemployment. Ive used this method every single year without any problem. Now, with only days left before the 30 November deadline, they refuse affidavits and demand a “UIF statement from the Department of Labour confirming unemployment status”. The Department of Labour has publicly stated for years (as far back as 2017) that they DO NOT issue such letters for medical aid purposes. I have wasted time and money going to their offices only to be turned away and told the exact same thing: “We arent able to provide unemployment confirmation letters and are unable to assist”. So BonCap is demanding a document that the labour department isnt able to provide. If we don’t produce this by 30 November, they automatically move us to the highest contribution bracket (over R4 000 per month) This is nothing less than a forced cancellation dressed up as “income verification”. They have put us between a rock and a hard place: either magic up a letter that government says they cant provide us with, or cancel medical aid cover completely. This is unfair and feels designed to push the poorest members off BonCap so Bonitas can drop unprofitable clients before the new year. Shame on you, Bonitas. The department even states this on their website at
https://www.gov.za/speeches/unemployment-status-27-jan-2***
they state "The department is mandated to provide the Unemployment Insurance benefits to the qualifying unemployed and cannot issue these letters. Community members are therefore advised to desist from coming to the offices of the Department of Labour looking for such letters as the department is not mandated to issue such." Ive been with boncap for over a decade and this is very frustrating giving me the run around.
