Beware: Bonitas does not pay for emergency CT scans!

I am shocked to receive a letter today that a CT scan after an accident and before emergency operation on 10 August had been declined. This is rediculous. 14 days afterwards I am told the scans was not approved.

I broken my jaw bone end teeth in an accidental fall. To determine the exact damages a CT scan had to be taken of my jaw bone and facial bones before the emergency operation.

14 days after the operation I receive a casual letter telling me this is not approved.

I have been thinking of leaving this money hungry Bonitas medical aid a long time. But I always thought to stay because I was told of their excellent hospital and emergency benifits. Now I see this was not true. The doctor must operate without seeing the damages on a scan first. I pay an excessive amount of money every month for the standard option. And now this. My trust in Bonitas medical aid has been shattered and I am definitely going to change to a proper medical aid. The hospital/docter should already take me to court now because I do not and will not have the money to pay for there essential pre opp scans. Unless I cancell my membership at Bonitas and pay my monthly premium to the hospital/doctor every month on order to pay for a scan that was essential before the emergency operation could be done.

The scan revealed that my jaw was broken on 5 places. I mean this scan was not for cosmetic reasons but for an emergency. Bonitas really is no good and I will make it my business to tell everyone about this and warn other Bonitas members (most of my colleagues) and prospective Bonitas members that this medical aid is not to be trusted in a case of an emergency. Thay will approve you going to hospital bit won't approve any scan to determine damages. And they will decline it only 14 days after the operation. Should I have waited 14 days to hear If a scan of my broken jaw could be done? And if not then decline to be operated on?

This is unreal and laughable if you think about it. I pay over R3000 per month (excluding my employees contribution) for a medical aid having me pay a necessary essential emergency scan after an accident myself.

I wonder what more to expect that is not paid regarding this whole accident and resulting hospitalisation and operation.

One does NOT have peace of mind being a Bonitas member. I will change to another.
