Benefits denial

Bonitas continues to disappoint me. I have been diagnosed with severe depression in 2018. I have since been taking depression medication. Last year(2023), Bonitas sent me notification that in 2024 my plan will now include depression on their list of chronics, meaning my depression medication will now fall under chronic and won’t come from my savings anymore.

To my surprise when I went to the pharmacy to collect my depression medication, I am told that Bonitas only covers R150.00. Mind you, my antidepressants cost around R455.00 or so, meaning I have to pay a co-payment of around R300.00 or so every month. This doesn’t make sense, what is the point of saying my plan include depression as chronic however you want me to pay that ridiculous co-payment.

What is the point of saying depression now fall under chronic however you cover only that R150.00?

I have been sending emails to Bonitas however I am not getting any responses. It’s like they keep on disappointing and disappointing.

It is so sad that this week it is "World Mental Health Week" however I am being denied access to my medication for my mental health.

Your disappointment makes me re-evaluate my decision of staying with you!
