Avoid Bonitas and Pharmacy Direct and if you are serious about your health!
Attention everyone who is on the Bonitas, Boncap option! I spend R1375 (+/_) on a medical aid who is totally useless. About 4 years ago my GP decided to put me on anti-depressants and a pill to calm me, as many other people are on. On my option at Bonitas, I have to pay for my medication as they don't see depression and anxiety as a PMB (Prescribed Minimum Benefit) issue. That's number one! Then a few years ago I was submitted to the hospital where they found out that my blood is clotting up inside me and they don't know why. I was put on Warfarin to thin out the blood. Due to my body that went into shock, I developed diabetes type 2 and for that my GP put me on Glucophage 1000mg and Glycomin 5mg to be taken in the mornings and after dinner at night. On my option at Bonitas, Diabetes type 2 falls under the PMB section, but I still had to fight them to get me medication as they decided, that if you don't inject insulin, they don't see the reason to give you a glucose test meter and the test strips. They don't say that in their brochure!!!! Very misleading! That's number 2. They offer you two choices when it comes to receiving your medication. You either have to go to a prescribed pharmacy or they use the services of Pharmacy Direct and they don't ask for co-payments. When it comes to Pharmacy Direct, they change medication to generic ****, without any consent or notification and expect you to be okay with it. More than once I had to ask them if they know better than a qualified GP whom specifically prescribed me very specific meds. The **** that they gave me did nothing and even by eating healthy, my blood glucose levels averaged anywhere between 11 and 13, where it was between 6.5 and 8 on my original medication. Pharmacy Direct is supposed to supply me with my Warfarin, Glucophage and Glycomin. Sometimes they will send you enough medication for 2 months and sometimes they send you the full six months as per the script from the doctor. This time, they sent me 2 months worth of diabetic medication and one month's medication of Warfarin. Usually they send a next batch out when they were low on stock, which I though was the case here. When contacting Pharmacy Direct to ask what has happened to my second batch of Warfarin, they made me hold on for more than 30mins before the call was dropped. I don't have the time to do **** like that! Why can't they contact Bonitas and sort it out with them? Why couldn't they notify me via email, cell phone or land line? Warfarin, literally, keeps me alive! And these *********** idiots can't figure this out for themselves! And when you speak to them directly while you are furious and angry, they just tell you "If you can't speak to me without swearing, I won't help you" and when you explain to the *********** control center agent and explain explicitly how pathetic and stupid they are, she just ends the call. They think they are gods who can decide what medication they will give you and then have no professional ethic to tell a patient who needs daily medication about admin **** that they could've sorted out themselves! That's number three! The general service is below par and I can't refer anyone to use them as they are pathetic to say the least! They are excuse kings of note!
