Authorization for Bariatric Bypass Operation @ Special Case Department

I have never been so disappointed in Bonitas Medical Fund. I have been a member since 2000 and I they always gave me good service p until now. I For the past few years I am suffering of ill health. I am a diabetic, obese, asthma and have respiratory problems. I am also sitting with swollen legs and feet. I suffer from glaucoma and lost my left eye due to my diabetes. Because of my ill health i was boarded from work, so I am not able to work anymore. My diabetes in uncontrollable and over the years I picked up wight. I have tried many diets and weight loss products but to no avail. I will lost some weight and pick up more than what i lost. My health has also deteriorated over the years,. I have a big abdomen and it currently pressing on my lungs, that is why i have respiratory problems. I have a machine at home that generate oxygen to help me with my breathing in case I struggle to breathe which happens quite often. Also my oxygen flow in my body is very slow and does not flow as it should that is why I am sitting with the swollen legs and feet. It became so bad that it is now a health threatening situation. Last year alone I was about 6 times in hospital because of not be able to breathe. my oxygen in my body go so low that i end up in ICU to recover. My physician recommended that I must have Bariatric surgery to make my stomach smaller and it will solve most of my health issues, like my diabetes, my breathing, cholesterol etc. I went to see the doctor that does that kind of operation and he perform various test to see if I qualify for such operation. I do indeed. Th doctor together with all the other doctors motivated it to Bonitas that they feel that I must have the operation to give me a better quality of life. The letters together with all the relevant test was mailed to Bonitas on the 21/03/2020 and on the 24/03/2020 they notify me that they decline the operation. It is an exclusion on the medical aid. This operation is not for cosmetic purposes but for my health. I cant even move properly because i get tired easily and short of breath. I need this operation to have a better quality of life and to be healthy again. Bonitas did not even review my case. They just decline it. I really don't know what to do. I don't have the cash for such an operation. I am depending on the medical aid to make an exception because my health is at stake here
