On 24 June I bought 3 items of food from Boma Meat silverlakes that were marked down. The items were macaroni and cheese, rye bread and hot cross buns. The dates on 2 of the items were the next or in two days time, and the best before date for the mac and cheese was the same day. On putting the Mac and cheese in the microwave, it stank up my kitchen, and when I took it out, I found that the contents were rotten. The other two items were also very stale. New stickers had been pasted over the original stickers with new best before dates. The original best before dates were a few days prior to 24 June 2026. On contacting the shop, I was informed that this was standard practice of changing the dates on new labels stuck over the original ones, and that I was not entitled to a refund. I had sent them photographs of the changed stickers. This is a very serious health risk. People in South Africa have died from eating food that is rotten or contaminated. The shop has to be forced to stop this practice
