Dishonest driver

I booked a ride and the driver arrived but I noticed on the app that he didn't confirm that he had picked me up. A short while later I got a message to say that "Driver has cancelled the trip" and he then said to me they cancelled the trip - which was a lie - and I must pay him cash. Made me feel very unsafe. I got to my destination and paid him what was the trip fare. Why are they so *****? The trip was deleted so I don't have any way of leaving a review or having the details of the ride
