Bolt South Africa

Good day Bolt South Africa

I write to you with a very serious complaint.

On Friday, 30th January 2026, one of your drivers carelessly hit my car. She was ready to just drive off, but was blocked by my passenger. At the time of this accident, she had a passenger in her car, who immediately exited her vehicle and called an Uber.

When asked for her details i.e. driver’s licence, address etc. all she could basically say was “Hi” in a sky-high drugged voice. She said she did not have a licence, and was not insured. We took her cell phone and dialled our own, so that at least we would have a record of her cell number. We also took pictures of her number plate, licence disc and accident. When asked her name – she said it was “Mercy” but when her cell phone number was accessed, it read “Tit” .

I thought that Bolt Drivers HAD TO BE CAREFULLY VETTED! How did a drugged out lady be allowed to pick up a passenger? And not have a driver’s licence, or insurance?? The accident happened at around 12.30 pm and was corner Kirby Street, on the way to Bedford Centre in Smith Street, Bedfordview, Johannesburg.

It was reported to the Bedfordview Police Station and the case number is: AR242/01/2026

Can you please track the driver through her licence plate and licence disc numbers and ascertain why she was driving without her driver’s licence, and why she was not insured. I will need to take my car to a panel beater to repair, but I fail to see why I should have to pay for excess or damage to my vehicle when it is entirely this lady’s fault. Does Bolt carry insurance for their drivers? My insurance company (Discovery) will sue her for the damages they will have to pay to the panel beater, or will Bolt be responsible??

Her licence plate is CX 84 TY GP, white Etios Toyota. By the way, her headlight was already smashed before the accident and as you know, it is ******* to drive with a broken headlight. It was not broken in the accident. Her licence disc is valid until 31.10.2026 RSA No: ***D4MPT with VIN number MBJB29BT***.

Will you please urgently advise on all the questions raised above, so I can send them to my insurance company so they can pursue this lady, or does Bolt accept responsibility? I thought your drivers were regularly put through drug/alcohol testing, or is it incumbent on the driver? Unfortunately the passenger walked away before his details could be obtained, but I am sure once you trace the driver through her licence, you will be able to see where she picked up this passenger and find out his name and possibly get a statement from him. I would also please like this information once you retrieve this.

I will be putting this e-mail up on your Facebook and Twitter pages, and if necessary, will also advise Hello Peter as the thought of her killing an innocent person with her reckless driving is a thought I cannot bear.

Please respond urgently to this e-mail and advise. Pictures of licence plate and disc attached.
