Bokkie Park Vet

I'd like to take this time to submit my review of Bokkie Park Animal Clinic.

I've been taking my cat to this clinic for a few years now. The main reason for visiting was vaccinations, washes and de-worming. Before last week, I had never experienced any problems with this clinic; however, that has all changed because un(fortunately), one of the ways in which we grade any establishment is by it's ability to solve any problems that may arise. It is with GREAT disappointment that I post this review, as Bokkie Park Animal Clinic has proven itself *********** and irresponsible.

Last week, we left my cat Blu at their "best" animal hotel before going on our Christmas vacation. When I returned to fetch my boy, I noticed that he had puss leaking from his left eye! I reported it to the staff immediately who then took him in for a consultation. I learned that while there, he had contracted conjunctivitis. How upsetting! When I left him there, I expected him to be well cared for and observed, considering the cost of their hotel and treatments.

Throughout the consultation the vet never once apologized to me for, at the VERY least, failing to notice that my cat had fallen ill under their care. He then continued to deny responsibility, and claiming that animals can get sick anywhere and I shouldn't hold him accountable for it. When I asked for the cost of it all, he said that the antibiotics would cost around R400 and the opthalmic solution around R150. He said he "considered" giving me a free consultation but later revoked it at the last minute. At this point my patience had worn itself thin, and I had finally had enough. I thanked him and asked to be given my receipt so I could make the payment and take my cat home. He agreed and we were released. When I made the payment, I realized that the consultation actually cost around R400 and the medication itself was much cheaper. So he also **** to me about their pricing. I felt extremely disrespected.

We went home and I further inspected Blu myself, and I found that he had developed a cyst on his left paw AND the right side of his jaw was swollen and hard. His face was totally lopsided and he had been shedding fur like crazy from all the stress!

I dropped him there thinking he would be safe and brought him back with three SEPARATE ailments and I never got so much as an apology from that vet! As well, in my opinion, if your establishment makes a mistake it must compensate for that somehow. The very least he could do was give me a free consultation. He should have been apologetic, and recognize how inappropriate and unprofessional it was to care for my Blu so poorly, especially since I was paying them so much! Instead he was defensive and argumentative and denied any and all responsibility. He even seemed upset by the fact that I so sternly raised this issue. I guess he expected me to merrily accept their nonsense! In the end, I paid almost R2000 more for THEIR mistakes.

Needless to say, I am totally outraged and have no idea what to do about my cat now. He needs more treatment and that will stress him out more, and I know it will cost me an arm and a leg.

I feel that Bokkie Park Animal Clinic handled this matter terribly; immaturely, in fact and I am currently searching for a better, more considerate alternative. I just don't want anyone to cause stress for my cat, and certainly not for me either.

If anybody is considering taking their pet there, please reconsider as complications may occur at any moment, and you want to have a good team on your side when they do. Try not to find yourself in my position, I've found it to be quite burdensome.
