Body Action gym does not care!

I was lured to signing up because of a promotion that was running three months back. The agent told me that I can cancel at any time without any trouble or fees. Its unfortunate I lost my business due to the looting that took place in the country. My workshop was burned down. Customers' cars were set alight in my workshop pending the time I was abroad. I wrote to body action to let them know I have lost my source of income and that I cant continue with the gym and would like to cancel. The agents respond by telling me they don't care and that I must pay a cancelation fee worth R10000. I responded requesting to speak to a manager hoping they could have sympathy and understand the unfortunate circumstance I found myself in with my family and that we lost it all due to riots and protests as well as the looting that took place. Body action says that they don't care and that they want their money

Dear Promise, The initial cancellation request was motivated in that you and your family do not currently have the means to further comply with our membership agreement’s monthly fee payments. The cancellation fee as per our agreement and the amount stated is for two memberships (for you and your husband) and the amount presented is for 9 (nine) months remaining on your membership terms. As Body Action Gym, it is not in the best interest of our business, and most importantly, our members, to “lure” them into signing membership agreements, as it remains the choice of the client to decide if our offering is best suited to their needs based on the membership agreement they sign. To help us make an informed decision on the requested cancellation, please can you provide supporting documents and/or evidence to corroborate the business interruption (or loss of business) suffered. As a business, we sympathise with all individuals and businesses alike, affected by the recent unrest and looting.
