Replacement Fitters

I have taken my 2012 BMW 1000RR motorcycle for a yearly service and to clear the error on the dash that was showing lamp error. That was all that was wrong with the bike at the time I took it to the dealership.

When I got it back the dash will die and restart at intervals. I contacted BMW and notified them about the problem and they told me to look for a lose connection on the battery (That they replaced with a new one). When I tried to remove the seat, the nuts was glued and I had to drill the bolts out to get the seat off. There were no lose connections so they informed me to bring it back so that they can put it on the computer to see what they can find. Note that I stay in Ellisras which is 350km from PTA

I took it in and after 2 days I was informed that the problem was solved and I can collect the bike. On my way back from PTA to Ellisras the problem was still there and I returned back and for the second time and left it there for more than a week. I was informed that the bike is fixed and I can collect it, but yet again the problem was still there. I took it back for the 3de time and requested the workshop manager to priorities it for my son is in PTA for business and will drop the bike and on his return he will pick it up.

On my son’s return around 15h00, they haven’t started with the bike. (Workshop staff was still on lunch). After calling the general manager he ensured me that he will investigate. After 20 min the workshop manager called me and informed me that a capacitor inside the dash has broken off and it will cost R12 000 to replace. This is after 3 times just resetting the computer and could not find the problem that wasn’t there when I took it for a SERVICE.

I have informed them that I do not trust there workmanship and I brought the bike back home. I opened the dash and found where the capacitor was broken off, and to replace the capacitor will cost me R13.80 excluding postage to Ellisras.

Now here are my questions:

· How do they service your bike and when you get it back, you got more problems than before.

· How do I know if they even replaced the parts that charge you for

· How does a small component like a capacitor that is soldered to the PC board gets broken off inside a water prove, tight sealed “Highly” technological piece of hardware. (Bike has only 8000km on the clock) – Not that great for BMW

· What computer software does BMW use that cannot detect a missing component

· Why do they want to replace a part that can be repaired (Replace R12 000 – Repair R13.80 + Labour) or will they repair it and charge the customer the R12 000

· How can it be that the general manager and workshop manager cannot raise the question to the BMW fabricators that this is a factory warranty issue? Because this bike only has 8000km on the clock and how is it possible for this component to break off inside a sealed unit.
