Extremely Poor Aftersales Service - Rather buy from another dealer
PLEASE DO NOT BUY A MOTORCYCLE FROM BMW MOTORRAD MBOMBELA IF YOU HAVE NOT CHECKED THAT EVERYTHING IS iN ORDER BEFORE SIGNING FOR IT. YOU WILL NOT GET PROPER AFTER SALES SERVICE!
I bought a used BMW R1200GSA from BMW Motorrad Mbombela towards the end of April 2023 and after a very pleasant sales experience, the bike was delivered to my house in Pretoria a few days later.
Once I received it, I started going through the motorcycle and found several undisclosed flaws / differences on the motorcycle. I immediately took it up with the salesperson who confirmed the matters which was not disclosed beforehand. Parts were removed and changed without notifying me. There was small damage to the seat and the so called “brand new” tires had a puncture that was plugged, and the tread full of cracks.
When I received my license disk, I noticed the biggest problem namely the GVM which was incorrect, less than factory specifications, and this was not pointed out to me before I signed the deal. If I knew about it, I would not have purchased the bike. This was a fault from BMW SA, according to the dealer, that happened in 2012 when the bike was first registered in South Africa. The result is the bike is not legally allowed to carry more than 75kg over and above its Tare weight on South African roads. The factory specifications say the bike can carry 216kg.
The dealer claims they were not aware of it, but when they registered the motorcycle in their name after buying / trading it from the previous owner, they had to complete the Tare and GVM weights on the blue Natis RLV form. It was also printed on the Road Worthy Certificate which the dealer did for registration. They also completed the same blue RLV form when they registered it in my name.
I basically received different goods than what was sold to me in the eye of the Consumer Protection Act.
The dealer was requested to have this corrected together with some other mechanical issues the bike came with, which was also not pointed out. The mechanical issue was sorted halfway by a local BMW dealer, but the GVM was never sorted.
It is now almost a year later, and it is still not sorted. I have tried with the previous Dealer Principle (DP) to get to a solution to either collect the bike to sort out the issues or take the bike back. Now, the DP and salesperson has resigned, and the new Sales Manager is not responding on my written requests for feedback.
I have given them options from my bank on how to cancel the finance deal without much cost and nothing work. Now I am running out of options due to the time that has lapsed, and it is starting to look like it might have been their plan all along.
Please, if you decide to buy a bike from BMW Motorrad Mbombela, please sort out all problems before signing for the bike. It will save you a lot of problems and headaches or alternatively, DO NOT BUY FROM THEM AT ALL.
