Poor Planning & execution

Around February 2023 I purchased a brand-new BMW x 4 at BMW East rand mall. The car has been fine with no problems. Somewhere in November I drove into burger king to buy food and some cooldrinks. When I removed food from the car I accidentally dropped the soda on the vehicle's gear lever and the starter button, which I wiped off immediately and the car continued to drive normal with no problems. A week down the line the start button and the gear lever became very hard and I will struggle to start the car. I didn't know what the cause of the problem was, I then booked the car in. BMW advised that they found a liquid inside those buttons and that the motor plan does not cover for water damages, and the cost to fix the damage came to about R21k which I was provided with the invoice. My problem is that this car had cost me R1.2m to purchase and my question is, are this features not supposed to made water resistance, how do you manufacture such an expensive car and omit to think and make the parts water resistance, people who drive this cars have kids, and also there is no instruction in the car that says do not eat or bring any liquids inside the car, so how was I supposed to know that the parts are not water resistance? I personally think that the parts in the car should be water resistance and that BMW SA must fix my car. This is very disappointing and shows a lack of research on BMW side. You cannot overlook the fact that people eat & drink inside the cars. Please can someone explain to me how does this work. I need my car fixed. Thanks
