Terrible service
I recently bought a solar module and regulator from Blue Planet Power, Knysna. The system was installed in my caravan, exactly as per their salesman’s recommendations, and per manufacturers supp**** instructions. The solar system was to charge my caravan battery while camping at “off-the-grid” sites. I quickly learned that the regulator does not switch to “float” charge once the battery is fully charged, but continue to charge the battery at a very high 14.7v continuously. The battery was starting to boil as a result of overcharge/overheating. When I replaced the regulator with a different manufacturers unit, all was working 100% as the controller switched to a “float charge” of 13.6v once the battery reached full capacity charge. The unit supp**** by Blue Planet Power was thus in my opinion faulty. As I do not reside in the same town as BPP, I phoned the salesman, and explained to him the defect. I informed him that I have already purchased a different regulator, and that this unit works 100%. I was told to return the unit at my earliest convenience for a refund. As I do not reside in the same town, the unit was returned to their store by a colleague traveling through Knysna. The store then refused a refund, and indicated they will replace the unit under warranty. I again informed them that the product did not perform to my expectations, and caused damage to my battery, and I therefore have no trust in a replacement unit, and rather preferred a refund. After numerous phone calls, emails and extreme rudeness from the owner, did he eventually agree to refund me. A representative requested via email my banking details. This I presume this was to effect an EFT refund. Once I supp**** them with my banking details, was I informed that they would charge a 30% transaction fee if they refund me via EFT. I was requested to rather return to their store with my card, in order for them to reverse the transaction. As it would be only a partial refund, I believed a reversal would not be possible, and even questioned the authentication of this type of refund. The latter was also confirmed by my bank (FNB). I also informed them that a “in store” refund is not possible, as I do not reside in the same town, and traveling to their store will cost far more than the actual refund amount. Blue Planet Power then blatantly refuse any other form of refund, and persist that its company policy to only perform “in store” refunds. To this I could find no mention on their website, nor was it posted in their store when I did the initial purchase. I since had to replace my battery, as the overcharging regulator caused damage to my battery, and no longer holds a charge. I find this very bad after sales service, and the rudeness of the owner is even worst.
Take care
