******* distribution of personal information

I received a call from an Insurer wanting to give a "free" insurance quote for home and contents cover. I agreed to participate up to the point when the agent read out my ID number to me and requested to do a background check.

I was completely shocked that he gave me the information as I, at no time, gave him my ID number and I then requested where he got my information from. He advised that information was provided to them by Blue Label Data Solutions.

How is it possible that my personal and sensitive information is made available by this company to other parties WITHOUT my permission???

I want answers as this is clearly in contravention with TCF legislation, the Consumer Protection Act and the Protection of Personal Information Act.
