Horrific Experience at Blackrock Hotel, Newcastle

I am utterly disgusted by the experience I had at Blackrock Hotel in Newcastle, KZN, and even more so by the way the hotel management has handled the situation. What was meant to be a simple, comfortable stay turned into a nightmare, and their complete lack of accountability has made it even worse.

The Shocking Incident

Upon checking into my room, I discovered a suspicious liquid stain on the bed accompanied by a strong, unbearable stench. This was not just an inconvenience—it was disturbing and raised serious health concerns. I had already slept in that bed before noticing the stain, which left me traumatized, questioning what I had been exposed to.

I immediately reported this to hotel staff, and I was moved from Room 307 to Room 309. While I appreciated the assistance from Noma, this was merely a band-aid solution to a much bigger issue. The hotel failed to provide any clarification on what the substance was, whether it posed a health risk, or how such an unhygienic situation was allowed to happen in the first place.

Management’s Disrespectful and Defensive Response

Instead of taking responsibility, Varsha Govender, the hotel manager, and her team chose to shift the blame onto me. Their response was dismissive, claiming the room was cleaned before my arrival, as if that somehow excused the fact that I encountered an unsanitary and potentially hazardous situation.

They insinuated that the issue could not have happened under their watch, which indirectly suggested that I was either lying or responsible for the mess myself. This is an insult. Instead of prioritizing guest safety and well-being, they chose to gaslight me and deny any negligence on their part.

Complete Lack of Accountability from Blackrock Hotel and Tsogo Sun

To make matters worse, I escalated this issue to David Wild (Complex General Manager) and Tsogo Sun’s Head Office, expecting a professional response and resolution. I received nothing.

No acknowledgment. No apology. No accountability.

This silence speaks volumes about the kind of “customer service” and “hospitality” they claim to offer. It is clear that complaints are swept under the rug rather than addressed properly.

Taking This Public

Since Blackrock Hotel and Tsogo Sun refuse to take this matter seriously, I have no choice but to expose this disgusting experience on public platforms like Hello Peter and social media. People deserve to know the horrible state of hygiene and poor management at this establishment before considering a stay there.

I strongly advise anyone planning to stay at Blackrock Hotel to reconsider. If this is how they handle serious complaints, imagine what other issues they are covering up.

This is not just about my experience—this is about guest safety, hygiene, and the fundamental responsibility of a hotel to provide clean and habitable accommodations. I refuse to let this go unanswered.
