Bill Buchanan is NOT what they make out to be !!!

It is with a very sad and heavy heart that I write this review about Bill Buchanan. My mom chose Bill Buchanan as her choice of a retirement home when she turned 65 and as such went into individual living at Helen Gibling. She was still fit, healthy and driving when she moved in 2018. Sadly Covid struck and the nurses stopped doing their routine visits to check on the residents vitals and it was during this time that my mom developed hypertension unbeknown to any of her daughters. We unfortunately discovered this too late and she was then moved into assisted living in Emerson House in January 2022. She continued to deteriorate due to the fact that she had suffered multiple minor strokes due to the high blood pressure that was never detected by BB and therefore developed vascular dementia. I was called in to say that she now needed to be moved to the frail care unit which was R16000 per month of which we could not afford as my mom is on a SASSA pension. We could certainly not afford that so we began the process of trying to source another home for my mom. Mr Fortune called a meeting with me and assured me that we did not need to move my mom and that they would assist us with the balance of what we could not afford. This was in September of 2022. Vascular dementia is the most debilitating disease that is soul destroying for a family to watch, the very person who you knew as your mother literally fades away before your eyes and becomes a shell of the once vibrant human being that they once were. On the 31st October 2022, literally 2 months later, I was called in to say that the nursing staff and matron could no longer "deal" with my mom and that we needed to find another home for her and we were given 1 month to do so. My mothers decline in not only her physical health but also her mental health I blame entirely on BB as they treated her so badly, shouting and fighting with her to a point that she had numerous falls and was full of bruises. They would not bath her and just left her lying on her bed. To say that I am utterly mortified by the treatment that my mother received would be an understatement and that BB could not wait for her to leave. On the day I arrived to collect her, her belongings were out on the pavement, kicked out like a dog, and so many of her personal belongings are still missing. They come across as so caring but they are a money grabbing institute because the minute they had to subsidise the cost of the frail care unit, everything changed and within 2 months they chose to kick my mom out like she was a second grade citizen. I am so grateful we found her a loving caring facility who recognise her as a person with an illness that is beyond her control and not some burden or even worse, a woman who still has ome dignity. I urge anybody considering Bill Buchanan to care for their loved ones to think very carefully because they make out like they are capable and so caring but the only thing that matters to them is the MONEY and not the fragile, frail and sick people in their care !!!!
