Not my job

I went with my sister's family to Walker Creek Office Park in Nicholson Road. The office park has appointed Bidvest Protea Coin. Today, due to an overbooking, there was insufficient visitors' parking inside the office park, so the security company advised us to park on the pavement across the road. We parked our car about 20m from the guard office. My sister's husband took a walk with their toddler towards the car, and in the 5 minutes it took him to get back inside, he noticed that the car was no longer parked there. Less than 20m away from their guard office, the "security" personnel managed not to see anyone tampering with the car because they were sitting around the corner chatting. They maintain that they only look after the building but even though they direct visitors of the tenants of the office park to park 20m away from the guard office, they cannot watch those vehicles. Conveniently the car was ****** around the time of a change of shift or lunch relief or some reason that the guard house was unmanned. In addition, they are so poorly trained that they don't know how to respond in an emergency. We realised the vehicle was missing within a few minutes of it being ******, and they didn't know who to contact or what to do. I might have expected that they'd have some emergency numbers on hand - perhaps the local private security company or the local police station - but they stood around and insisted that they were only responsible for the office park.

In addition to the loss of the vehicle, we have also incurred over R500 worth of Uber fees in order to get to the police station to report the matter and then to get home. I also wonder if the insurance payout will even cover the cost of a replacement vehicle of the same model and year.

The thing that most stands out to me about the was the small-minded approach of, "it's not my job." The "security guards" couldn't even watch the vehicles that they themselves had directed to park 20m from their guard house because they're only responsible for the office park. I'm not at all impressed and would discourage anyone looking for a security company from appointing Bidvest Protea Coin and their idle security guards.
