No Agency. No urgency. Rinse, repeat
I'm renting a long term rental from Avis/Budget and dropped the vehicle off for a 15 000 km ervice at Toyota. Not even 2 hours later. The car is ready for collection? 😳 I'm receive the vehicle health inspection report. Front brakes: pads / shoes 10mm Back brakes: pads/ shoes 4mm "needs attention".
I question Toyota as to why the issues that I requested Avis/budget for referral had not investigated; Back brakes; Wheel alignment and balancing.
Toyotas esponse: no one told us. Never mind that their own inspection report says that the back brakes "require attention"
Avis/Budget response: no one ever told the booking agent to report issues raised by the customer to the workshop manager 🙆♀️
On the Wheel balancing. Work shop manager said "tread is still fine" no Wheel balancing or balancing required
Is no one seeing the elephant in the room. Despite the rear brakes " requiring attention " and the workshop is not "allowed to" quote on or recommend for repairs. Why is there such a huge variance between the back and front brakes. When it should be the other way around? Is it Wheel balancing/ alignment- uneven wear on the tread, drag, hand brake lock glitches?
Apparently..no one cares. The technician was going to do a physical inspection to see if the discs need to be skimmed...somewhere between he said, she said, they said..my vehicle is still up in the air and I had no feedback since 3pm besides "noted". And am stranded without a car, to get to the office in the morning 😉.
A cherry on top. Avis/Budget airport..were supposed have booked the car in on Friday 21/8. I especially took the day off, because I wouldn't have a car ...and the "customer care" agent forgot...
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We believe there may have been a misunderstanding or miscommunication between yourself and the rental company.
The vehicle was originally booked for Friday, but was only brought for servicing the next Monday.
When the vehicle was brought in for service, our service advisor inquired if there were any additional concerns or requests regarding the vehicle that needed to be addressed. None were mentioned at that time. Please note that any specific issues must be communicated to us directly by the person bringing the vehicle in for service. We had no prior report from Avis/Budget requiring an investigation.
The vehicle was scheduled for an Express Service, which is designed to be completed within an hour and a half for the convenience of our customers. This service was appropriate for the 15000 km maintenance schedule, which primarily involves an oil change. This was agreed upon at the time of booking.
Regarding the brakes, the front brake pads were noted to be in good condition at 10 mm, the rear brake linings measured 4 mm and were identified as requiring attention. While replacement was not considered immediately necessary at the time of inspection, they may require replacement before the next scheduled service interval.
It is important to note that the wear limits and specifications for front and rear brake components differ due to their design. The front brakes use a disc and pad system, while the rear brakes use a drum and shoe system. As part of our standard vehicle health check process, we communicated the condition of the brake components and recommended monitoring them closely. We also advised that if the rear brakes were stripped and inspected, Avis/Budget might decline authorisation for replacement if the linings were found to be within manufacturer specifications.
Wheel alignment and balancing are authorised and performed through an approved fitment center in accordance with Avis/Budget's maintenance procedures. As an independent service provider, we recommend addressing any related concerns directly with Avis/Budget.
We take great care in servicing vehicles and follow standard procedures to ensure all basics are checked and the process runs smoothly within our scope. Should you wish to discuss this matter further, please feel free to contact our service manager directly.
Thank you for your understanding.
Best regards,
