McCarthy Toyota Sold Me a Defective Car – I Feel Cheated

McCarthy Toyota has completely destroyed my trust. I bought a car in April, and from day one I raised complaints. Instead of taking responsibility, the dealership misled me and insisted the car had no issues.

Now I am stuck with a broken, noisy, oil-dripping car that I am forced to pay for every single month. A so-called “reputable” dealership sold me a defective vehicle.

When I went back for help, I was dismissed and pushed away to the Ombudsman. On HelloPeter, I was promised an investigation — yet 3 months later, nothing. This dealership clearly does not care about customers once they have your money.

This is not just bad service — this is a direct violation of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA): • Section 55: Consumers have the right to safe, good-quality products. • Section 56: If goods are defective within 6 months, the consumer has the right to return them, or demand repair or replacement.

McCarthy Toyota has ignored these rights. Instead of honoring the law, they left me with a car that is unsafe, defective, and a financial burden.

It is painful to pay for a car every month yet I cannot use it as intended. I am now worried that I will get stuck with this car, and as a woman, anything can happen to me if I get a break down at night. This is not only financially draining but also places my safety at serious risk.

I now believe this is dishonest misrepresentation, because the way they defended the car from the very beginning makes me suspect they knew it was faulty when they sold it to me.

McCarthy Toyota, your employees are destroying your reputation with ruthless dishonesty. You misled me, and I will not stop until this is exposed and dealt with.

Reviewer Update
Please note that MIOSA ruled in my favour and instructed the dealership to repair my vehicle.
Previously, I was also promised on Hello Peter that once MIOSA had provided an outcome, the dealership would comply accordingly (see previous reply).

I have experienced ongoing issues with the dealership manager. Initially, he acknowledged receiving the MIOSA outcome and confirmed that the vehicle would be repaired accordingly. When arrangements were made for collection, he then insisted that I first summarise the MIOSA email for him before proceeding, which I eventually did.

Upon collection of the vehicle, we requested to inspect it, as it had previously been returned with a missing pedal. The person who collected the car refused to allow this inspection.

It has now been more than 15 working days since the vehicle was collected, despite MIOSA indicating a 15-day repair period. I have not received proper communication regarding the status of the car, whether they are awaiting parts or if there are any delays. I sent an email to the dealership manager requesting an update, and two days later I have still not received a response.

I am also concerned that the vehicle has once again been taken to the same mechanic who previously failed to fix it and made the situation worse.
At this stage, I am still without my vehicle, and no meaningful progress or resolution has been communicated even after the MIOSA outcome.
Please urgently escalate this matter and provide a clear update and way forward.
