Complaint regarding Toyota-supp**** subwoofer – repeated failure

I purchased a new Toyota Corolla in March 2023, and overall I have been very happy with the vehicle. It has delivered the reliability and quality that I expected from Toyota. However, I am extremely disappointed with one aspect of the purchase: an optional subwoofer that I ordered directly through Toyota. The subwoofer, including the required fitment kit, cost just short of R20,000. Unfortunately, it was not available when the vehicle was delivered, so I subsequently returned to the Toyota dealership from which I purchased the vehicle to have it fitted. In effect, this was a Toyota-supp**** accessory fitted by Toyota's own dealership. The subwoofer worked for a very short period before failing. I was subsequently told that it had "blown", but no satisfactory technical explanation was provided as to why this had happened. At one point, the suggestion was made that I may have caused the failure by using the remote control fitted in the centre console. I find this difficult to understand. If Toyota supplies and installs a remote control as part of the system, surely the customer should be able to use it as intended without being blamed for the failure of the component. Unfortunately, the same issue has now occurred again. The subwoofer has stopped working and I returned it to the same Toyota dealership. I have again been told that the subwoofer has blown, but once again no explanation has been provided as to what caused the failure. I have been driving for more than 42 years and have owned numerous vehicles. I have never blown a vehicle speaker or subwoofer, including sound systems that I personally installed in some of my vehicles. I have also never blown a speaker in my home sound system. This particular system uses Cerwin-Vega components, which are generally regarded as quality audio products. That makes the repeated failure even more difficult to understand. I appreciate that the vehicle is now outside its warranty period. However, I believe it is reasonable to question the durability of a nearly R20,000 Toyota-supp**** accessory that has failed twice, particularly when neither Toyota nor the dealership has been able to provide a technical reason for the failures. I have now been quoted approximately R8,500 to replace the subwoofer alone. The diagnostic charge was R589, which at least included a vehicle wash, but the underlying issue remains unresolved. I am not looking for an argument or trying to avoid paying for something that has genuinely failed through normal wear and tear. What I would like from Toyota SA is a reasonable explanation for why this component has failed twice, and consideration of a goodwill solution given the purchase price, the fact that it was supp**** and fitted through Toyota, and the relatively short service life of the component. I bought a Toyota because of its reputation for reliability and quality. The Corolla itself has lived up to those expectations. Unfortunately, this particular Toyota-supp**** accessory has not, and the experience has left a disappointing and unnecessary bitter taste.
