Damaged vehicles not accurately noted on handover
During a rental period, the vehicle sustained damage to the windscreen which was immediately reported to Bidvest. Upon arranging for a vehicle exchange, a minor dent was noticed on the rear right, likely from jack damage during a tyre change. This damage was minor enough to be missed during collection at Johannesburg Airport branch and, most likely, missed by the representative doing cursory inspections.
Having noticed these cursory inspections first-hand, it is quite reasonably expected that such minor damage can be missed during inspection and, unwittingly, passed on to customers down the line. As is the case, I raised a dispute as to the reasonableness of charging R20,000 for a thumb sized dent, particularly as no tyre changes occurred during the rental period.
Unfortunately, attempts to have this resolved during vehicle changeover was unsuccessful, as the airport branch supervisor, Xolani, was not receptive to reasonable explanations.
It is incredibly disappointing that Bidvest, the last remaining car rental company that has, thus far, not deceptively passed on costs to the customer, has now joined the same ranks of poor customer service.
