Horror in the "maternity department"
I was admitted on the 28/02/2023 and the nurses who received me without even reading my card they were talking about how I don't look like I am in labour and the Dr who referred me to their department is *********** (day shift staff- this lady lost her baby and they were chatting and complaining that she was sent to their department knowing what the baby is already gone infront of patients in the lady's presence. That was very insensitive as the poor lady cried and they didn't even care about her, instead the patients were there ones trying to calm her down).
I was sent to room 1 right opposite to the reception and the Mr Dube was really heavenly sent as he was taking assisting me after the Dr's visit. He is so patient and dedicated to his work. I believe he was the only sister nurse working as he was visiting different rooms and attending to a lot of patients while the others were gossiping at the reception (night shift staff- I was walking to the bathroom and there were patients waiting to be attended, one of the staff members started shouting to the others how this other patient is taking pills and those pills are for HIV positive people).
When I started bleeding heavily and called for a nurse 3 times, one of them was passing by and looked at me. I told her that I feel like pooing, she looked at the blood that was coming out and said that the baby is closer to coming. Without checking me she then left me there. I kept on calling for assistance while the staff was chatting and some would reply while annoyed and they didn't come to see why I was calling for them. After some time someone came, they didn't have name tags so I didn't catch her name. She would get annoyed that she asked me to climb on the bed while I am having contractions and I could not move as I needed to wait for them to go. After checking she found that I was 7cm dilated however my water didn't break. She said that I must walk to the delivery room still annoyed that I can't move while having contractions. When I got to the delivery room and after she broke my water, she confirmed that I will be giving birth soon however she left me in the room (I felt neglected) as I was calling for assistance 4 times because there was an urge in me forcing me to push and I couldn't control myself. I pushed the head out and as I was pushing the rest of the body out she was by the door. She then told me that she went to assist else where but I didn't get that there is someone that side assisting however I am left alone to literally give birth on my own.
I was then moved to post natal department where I was discharged without a security pass and a discharge summary. When I took my baby for a 3days checkup I was told that I will not be assisted without that paper and had to go back to the hospital where I gave birth. When I got there the staff was shifting the blame on me asking how I left the hospital without that paper when the blame is really on them as I do not know their processes. Had I known that the form would be needed I was never going to leave without them as the documents I received was the baby's road to health card and forms to submit at home affairs. The lady who does administration in that department was rude and I felt she wanted to start an unnecessary fight as I was asking for assistance since I will not get assistance at my local clinic without that paper and I am on a queue. She rep**** by saying I am rushing her because she still need to go to the archives and if they can't find the paper there is nothing they can do. After some time she came back with my file and put it on the table without looking for someone to assist me or do it herself. I felt she was being spiteful and I didn't get what for. Later then one of the sisters asked why I have been sitting there because it's been a while, I explained to her why. When asked the clerk if they have my file, the clerk gave it to her. That sweet lady opened my file and found the discharge summary still in the book as it was never issued to me. She cut it out and gave it to me.
I really had the worst experience in that hospital and wish that they would hire more of Mr Dube(s), people who love and value their jobs, who are not working because of pay checks but because they are passionate about what they are doing. Compliments to Mr Dube as he is God-sent.
