Inhumanity at its finest.

Beyond Body Modification is a place in Parkhurst that does piercings and tattoos. They were identified as the go-to place for a superior brand of pure gold jewellery for piercing and were given much exposure by this brand. Last Saturday, one of my earrings came loose (admittedly with me fiddling with it) and I could not get it back in as I am peripherally blind and I could not thread the labret from the back by myself without causing much bleeding and pain. I called Beyond Body and spoke to a gent whose name started with a C, who said he can't help me with this brand and would only help me if I bought a top of one of their other ranges! I explained to him that all I'm asking is just for someone to put my earring back, not for a piercing or anything complicated, but he refused. He said I can come back and see the manager on the 5th. I explained that I am an emergency frontline worker (supermarkets show us more respect) and I was unable to return on the 5th. He wasn't phased and still would not help me unless I bought a new earring from them. Eventually, my young kid helped me thread the labret, ***** on the earring, and wipe up the blood and my tears. I spend my life saving lives but I couldn't ask someone to help me save me from pain and bleeding from an earring! Let that sink in for a minute. I just find it disgusting from a humanitarian point of view. But I have full faith in karma and the wheel turning. I have 15 ear piercings and both my ears have been very stylishly curated by another piercing studio close to Beyond Body. I meet hundreds of people daily through my work daily and my curated ears get loads of attention. I tell them where to go, but I also now add my bad experience because the bruising is still apparent, and I discourage anyone thinking if going to Beyond Body because they are inhumane. The other piercing studio has the best vibe, the best jewellery, the kindest staff and the most awesome piercer I have ever known. He has done 9 piercings for me in the last month (I have a total of 15), and they were quick and painless, and I've had no issues with any of the piercings afterwards, despite the fact that I wear a theatre cap daily as part of my PPE. They are head and shoulders above Beyond Body and to say that I am disgusted by Beyond Body's conduct on Saturday is an understatement. The wheel turns Mr C.

We, Beyond Body Modification, would like to issue the below response to the above comment –  Part of our service at Beyond Body Modification includes the care and maintenance of piercings. We offer this service free of charge to all clients and will always happily assist with the changing of jewellery. Clients are advised at the time of their booking that should they need assistance with the aftercare or maintenance of their piercings, they are free to come to the store at any time without a booking and we will assist them as soon as we are able to. Alternatively, clients are also able to make a booking in advance should they prefer to do so. We have never and will never turn away any client who needs assistance on this basis.   We received a phone call from the above poster requesting us to change a piercing for her with jewellery from a jeweller who we are no longer affiliated with. We advised her that unfortunately we had taken a decision to no longer work with this brand of jewellery, as it did not comply with our internal quality standards. The above poster asked whether we would nevertheless be able to accommodate her due to the fact that she is an emergency worker. We advised her that unfortunately we were not able to make an exception due to our own quality standards requirements, as well as for her own health and safety. One of our suggestions was that we change the piercing with jewellery from our own range and that once her piercing had healed, she could insert the jewellery from the aforementioned brand back into the piercing. We also suggested that she contact a different piercer who would be comfortable working with that brand of jewellery if she preferred. The above poster thanked us for our time and advised us that she would consider our suggestions.  We believe that this was a correct and professional response to the situation.  The above poster did not inform us at the time that she was peripherally blind or that she was considering changing the jewellery herself. Had she done so, we would have advised her in the strongest terms not to do so. We did not and would never advise a client to change their own piercing once it is still healing or to change a piercing that they are not comfortable with changing themselves. We are sorry that the above poster made the decision to ask her young child to change her piercing and that she was hurt in the process. However, we cannot take responsibility for such a decision, especially when we gave a number of alternative suggestions.   We will not be making any further comments to the above post. If any of our clients have any further questions, we invite you to please contact us directly.
