Unacceptable Payout Discrepancy and Total Lack of Customer Service
To Whom It May Concern at Betway,
I write this statement with immense frustration and disappointment following one of the poorest customer and punter experiences I have encountered in my years of betting.
On Saturday, 21 June 2025, during Race 6 at Royal Ascot (18:25 SAST), I placed two separate bets on the horse "Quai De Bethune" ridden by Oisin Murphy at fixed odds of 10/1. The details of the bets are as follows:
Bet 1: R100 at 10/1 Bet 2: R25 at 10/1
As is commonly known, bookmakers sometimes apply Rule 4 deductions in cases of non-runners or late scratchings. I am fully aware of this industry standard and understand its application. In this particular race, there was indeed a scratching prior to the off-time.
However, here is the critical issue:
My R25 bet paid out the full and correct expected amount: R250. My R100 bet was inexplicably reduced and only paid out R820 (when it should have paid out R1,000 at the original 10/1 odds).
This inconsistency is not only baffling but entirely unacceptable. Both bets were placed at the same odds, on the same horse, in the same race, and both should have been subjected to the same Rule 4 deduction if any deduction was to apply. The fact that Betway app**** a reduction on one bet but not the other proves there is no legitimate or consistent application of Rule 4 in this case.
Furthermore, after 96 hours of waiting, I still have not received any feedback from Betway on this matter—no call back, no email, no explanation, and certainly no correction of the payout error. This is despite the matter being allegedly “escalated” multiple times through your customer service hotline.
The service I have received has been nothing short of arrogant, dismissive, and entirely inefficient.
Let me be absolutely clear: This is no longer just about the money. This is about principle, fairness, and consumer rights. If Betway can casually and inconsistently deduct R180 from a small win like this, what is happening on larger bets? It raises serious questions about the integrity of your payout system and how many other customers might unknowingly be affected by similar discrepancies.
My Non-Negotiable Demands:
Immediate written explanation and correction of the payout discrepancy for Bet ID associated with the R100 bet on Quai De Bethune in Race 6 at Royal Ascot (21 June 2025, 18:25 SAST). Immediate contact from a senior representative (not a generic support agent) addressing this matter with urgency and professionalism. Full closure and termination of my Betway account following resolution, with a formal confirmation email stating the same.
If these matters are not addressed promptly, I will have no choice but to escalate this through additional formal consumer complaint channels, including the National Gambling Board of South Africa and financial consumer protection bodies.
This is not a request. It is a demand for fair treatment and resolution. Betway’s current handling of this situation is both unacceptable and legally questionable.
A gentle but important reminder: No company is too big to be held accountable.
I await your urgent and written response.
