Promises promises but no follow through!

Our house insurance is with Bettersure and thus far the service and response times have been absolutely pathetic.

We had major storm damage related to the April 2024 storm in Cape Town. The claims process has been quite challenging and drawn out. They sent an external assessor after 10 working days they came back saying they needed to send an internal assessor who never pitched after multiple promises that "No sir the assor will call you back today to make an appointment!"

Another Four weeks passed and only after posting online they finally sprung into action and suddenly wanted to settle the claim for a 10th of the price it would cost to fix it. Alternatively, they said we could use their approved contractors to fix the damage.

Since the settlement doesn't even cover the material to fix the damage we reluctantly agreed but said we would like a detailed list of what is approved and what is rejected. To this day there has been no response to that request.

Two weeks ago the contractor finally pitched only to say the insurance is not covering all the damages.

After the storm, the property had significant damage, including holes in the roof, no electricity, a bent and broken front gate and gate motor, collapsed and weakened perimeter walls, which pose a safety and security risks to the property!

I have had to rent temporary fencing, run generators for power so my renters could at least keep some lights on, fix some of the holes in the roof, get a tree felling company out to clear some of the damage, all costing me thousands all at my own expense while they twiddle their thumbs.

10 weeks after the claim we are still without power, without boundary walls, and extensive damage with no resolution.

Come on Bettersure...you can do better! If you're reading this can I please get an internal assessor to be sent out to assess the damage or do we have to go to the insurance ombudsman?

We are sorry to hear about the extent of damage you experienced from the flood and that you've had to endure a drawn-out process while trying to claim.

Thank you for sharing your reference number; we have shared this with our claims team so they can investigate the cause of the delay and contact you.

Hello MC Botha

This is an update to confirm that we have expedited your claim and requested the claims administrator to appoint a different service provider for the assessment.

We apologise once again for the delay on their part.

Warm regards,
