Nearly R20k to Fix BetterSure’s “Repairs”! Appalling Standards, Zero Accountability

I filed a lightning damage claim with BetterSure, only to be met with delays, deception, and disastrously poor workmanship. Despite providing full documentation—including photos and clear descriptions—the repair process forced me to cover nearly R20,000 in corrective costs myself. Here’s a glimpse of how it fell apart: - My alarm system was left non-functional after three days of work. My own alarm tech later corrected the system in under nine hours, identifying multiple dead components BetterSure’s team ignored or falsely claimed to have replaced—including two expander boards and a battery that were supposedly installed. - They cut a live power line to the alarm radio, reinstalled a damaged battery, and failed to replace burned-out PIR sensors and door contacts. Even basic tests like “does the light turn on” were misused to claim sensors were functional. - A crew was sent to repair wall damage—not painters or builders, but electricians—who never returned to finish the job. When I followed up, I was told they couldn’t afford to come back until BetterSure paid them. - The cherry on top? I repeatedly received texts prompting me to rate their work—before the work was even completed. Meanwhile, I’ve spent over R1,000 in airtime trying to get basic responses via phone or email. Worse still, BetterSure never rep**** to emails, never called back, and offered no escalation pathway for serious concerns. This was not a minor blunder. It was a systemic failure from top to bottom. Unskilled crews, missing components, deceptive installation claims, and radio silence from their end—all at my expense. I will not be trusting BetterSure with future policies, and I urge other homeowners to select a better option.

Hello Angie

Thank you for taking the time to share this detailed feedback. On behalf of the appointed service providers, and we want to begin by sincerely apologising for your experience.

What you've described is far below the standard of service we commit to and we fully understand your frustration—especially when it comes to delays, poor workmanship, and the lack of proper communication.

We take allegations of unprofessional repairs and lack of follow-up very seriously. The details you’ve outlined—particularly regarding the alarm system, incorrect components, and contractor accountability—are deeply concerning and will be urgently escalated for internal investigation with the claims administrator, 4Sure, and the appointed service provider.

We will formally reopen your case and conduct a full audit of what transpired, including the service provider’s conduct, communication gaps, and claim management, and ensure that you get feedback on the next steps.

Warm regards,
BetterSure

Hello Angie

We're happy to confirm that the claims administrator consultant has assigned a different builder to reassess and address any workmanship concerns that you raised.

Additionally, they have requested you to forward any claim-related invoices for the repairs you had to pay for out-of-pocket.

Thank you once again for bringing your concerns to our attention, and we look forward to resolving these issues.

Warm regards,
BetterSure

Reviewer Update
This is an update to make note that I was contacted by Sandile Bongo who made note of my complaint. He assigned a new provider to assess my damages and complete all the outstanding repairs. Prince M Construction came out and reviewed the work that was still outstanding and within approximately six or seven hours it was all fully repaired to my satisfaction. Every electrical fault was checked and confirmed good, all the damaged lights were repaired and confirmed working, the wall was fully painted in a matching color and the name of the paint and supplier were left with me so that more could be purchased in future. All work mess was cleaned up fully. The crew were polite, professional and did top notch work. This is how every work crew should behave going forward. I have also been fully refunded the amount that I was out of pocket on fixing the bad alarm repair. I was misinformed on the amount, which was a little over R6k, because a quote which was not taken up had been mixed in. I am very happy with the final resolution and am happy to put this matter to bed. I will be keeping my policy with BetterSure on the strength of their stellar efforts to put right what had gone wrong. If you have a policy with BetterSure or are debating taking one out, they have good and bad days like everyone. If you struggle with getting feedback, ask for their complaints department and you will be assisted promptly. Thank you Sandile for your efforts.
