They don't want to pay bills for newborn baby after birth

My wife gave birth to our first child in July this year. Our Paediatrician wanted to keep our son for an extra day bacause his Bilirubin count was going up. Magda at Bestmed said that they won't pay out because the Bilirubin count wasn't hight enought. After fighting with a supervisor from Bestmed, the lady told me that I need to ask the Dr to send them more information, or a motivation as to why he wanted to keep our son another day. Our Dr actually told us that if he discharges us and my son's Bilirubin count goes up further then we will have to come back to the hospital and then he will have to be checked into the paediatric ward, costing the medical aid more money, so he said it is better to just keep them both in the maternity ward for another day. Attached is a "Motivation" letter from our Paediatrician stating all the factors which influenced him in keeping our baby in hospital for another day. It is our doctors decision to decide what is best for our son and it should not be up to the medical aid. I also told Bestmed that I want to know what their guidelines are for what the Bilirubin count of a baby should be before they will pay for the UV treatment, and Magda at the call center just kept ignoring my question and eventually I found out that they are not allowed to tell me. So basically you are denying to pay for my neborn babies treatment, and you don't want to tell me exactly why. Magda actually told me that there are ways you can treat it at home! Why the hell do I have medical aid if you are telling me that we can treat this at home? Why should I go against the advice from a medical professional who studied for more than 10 years and who are taking into consideration all the factors surrounding my sons birth! Why should I take advice for a call center ageant called Magda over my Dr's advice??? All bestmed was concerned with was the Bilirubin count and the fact that it does not fall withing their guidelines. We pay allot of money for a hospital plan and can't believe that they don't want to pay for this. The outstanding amount is over R3 000. We are very dissappointed and are strongly considering to go to a different medical aid. Bestmed you have one last chance to fix this.
