Terrible service from Bestmed #Badmed

I would like to warn everyone about the Bestmed medical aid and to let them know that they should be very careful before signing up to join this medical aid! I went to visit my doctor (R420 paid by me) she explained to me that my tonsils were extremely swollen and that I should see a Specialist. I them made an appointment to see a specialist (R800 paid by me) the specialist then informed me that my tonsil were dangerously large and that the only route to take would be to have my tonsil removed. I then sent the specialist recommendation to the medical aid and requested authorisation from my medical aid to have the surgery. The surgery was declined and it was requested of me to have my doctor confirm via a written letter that this was not a pre-existing condition. I then again visited my doctor to obtain a letter that confirmed that the condition was not pre existing another (R420 paid by me). I then sent the letter to my medical aid and the surgery was then again declined and I was told that I now need to prove that I have tried an alternative treatment! This in my opinion is absolutely ridiculous they were clearly stalling and looking for ways to avoid paying for my surgery! I then however again went to see my doctor (be R420 paid by me) to obtain yet another letter that then stated that there was not an alternative treatment available and that a tonsillectomy was the only option! The medical aid again declined and then requested that I go and see the specialist again! After contacting the medical aid and asking them what the point would be to see the specialist again only for him tell me the exact same thing he told me the last time I went to see him besides cost me another R800, i was informed that apparently there was a clause in the terms and condition that stated that I need to wait a year before having this surgery. I requested that the terms and conditions be sent to me and was bluntly informed that they were on the website! I was unsurprisingly unable to find them on the website and again requested that they be sent to me with the said clause highlighted and I have since then (more than a week ago) not received any feedback from the medical aid and it is quite obvious to me that Bestmed is only interested in filling their own pockets and not in the health or well being of their clients. Why mess me around and cost me money to keep seeing doctors and specialists sending me from pillar to post only to tell me that apparently there is a clause and that this is now the reason the surgery is being declined! They obviously work very hard on finding reasons not to pay and I suggest that anyone looking for a medical aid should stay clear of Bestmed as they are truly not the best or even any good for that matter! #Badmed
