Please change BestMed's name to WORSTMED!!!

This must be the worst Medical Scheme in South Africa and I will definitely not advise anyone I know to become a member. I will strongly advise them to rather change their name to WorstMed... They have declined authorization for a operation that my husband really desperately needs after he had an accident and hurt his shoulder badly. We waited 3 weeks for them to come back to us. Only to let us know that he cannot have the procedure because we did not declare the problem with the shoulder beforehand. Please tell me how you can predict and declare that you are going to have an accident and hurt yourself before it even happened. If I were to get into a vehicle accident will I be left to die because I didn't or couldn't predict that it will happen before it actually happened. They went so far as to use the excuse that myself and our son also went to see our GP for an upper tract infection and a stomach ache due to too much acid, that is why they couldn't or didn't want to pay for my husbands operation. We had to pay our Patch Care account ourselves as well as the dental appointment I had. BestMed also decided to remove us from the medical aid without prior notice of consulting with us. Needless to say my husband is still in a serious lot of pain and I do blame BestMed for their incompetency and really bad service. I really do not know why we paid BestMed to be a client because we really just got NO joy out of them. PEOPLE PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY, TIME AND PATIENCE TO BE A BESTMED CLIENT. THEY ARE THE WORST OF THE WORST!!! One VERY Unhappy Customer!!!

Dear Angelique

Thank you for your feedback. We are truly sorry to hear about the difficulties your husband is experiencing and for the distress this situation has caused your family.

Please be assured that Bestmed takes allegations of non-disclosure very seriously and follows a thorough process aligned with industry regulations and the guidance of the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS). Any decision to decline funding or terminate membership due to non-disclosure is never made lightly. These decisions are based on a detailed review of the information provided at the time of joining, alongside any relevant medical records received thereafter.

Our clinical and administration teams work to ensure fair and accurate decisions in line with scheme rules, but we understand that the process can be distressing in urgent medical situations.

If you feel that your case was not assessed correctly or if there are additional details you would like to provide, we encourage you to formally submit an appeal to ***. We remain committed to reviewing all such matters fairly and transparently.

Kind Regards
GM
